IELTS Speaking Part 2 Questions

Top 50 IELTS Speaking Part 2 Topics And Questions 2023

IELTS speaking part 2!

I’m back with the second part of the IELTS speaking exam.

You may remember that I covered the first part of this exam in a previous article (if not, you can find it here).

In today’s article, I’ll be covering IELTS speaking part 2.

IELTS Speaking Part 2

In IELTS speaking part 2 (also called “Individual Long Turn”), you will talk about a topic for one or two minutes without interruption from the examiner. The whole part takes 3 to 4 minutes.

You can start by talking about the points suggested on the cue card. You should also try to include your own ideas and opinions about the topic.

You will have one minute to prepare your answer. The examiner will give you a piece of paper and a pencil to take notes.

You might be asked one or two questions on the topic when you finish.

The examiner will usually say the following statement when giving you the cue card.

“You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.”

IELTS Speaking Part 2 Tips

1. Take advantage of your preparation time.

You only have one minute to prepare, so use your time wisely.

Try to decide what to talk about in the first 10 seconds. Make sure you know how many points you will cover and how much time you will use for each point.

2. Paraphrase the topic.

Paraphrasing means rephrasing something in your own words. This is a good strategy for answering most IELTS speaking questions because it shows you understand what has been said and can work out how to answer it yourself. You can also use paraphrasing to show off your vocabulary and grammar range.

3. keep talking until the time is up.

Don’t worry about making mistakes; just keep going. The examiner will stop you when it’s over, so ensure you’ve finished your point before then.

4. Speak at a steady pace with natural pauses.

Speaking at a steady pace is essential as it helps keep your voice clear and consistent throughout your speech, which allows the examiner to follow along easily.

5. Ask for clarification if necessary.

If any words or phrases are unclear to you on the topic, ask for clarification from the examiner. It’s better than getting the topic wrong and talking about something completely irrelevant.
